Pablo Corral’s book Protesta y Ciudadanía. Conflictos ambientales durante el franquismo en Zaragoza (1939-1979) (REA, 2015) [Protest and Citizenship. Environmental conflicts during Franco’s regime in Saragossa (1939-1979)] explains how authoritarian Franco’s policies were regarding the environment and how authoritarian or democratic Franco’s subjects were. Corral offers a new account of environmental inequalities and cultures of postwar world-systems and right-wing dictatorships, by showing how residents of Saragossa’s urban peripheries suffered and linked similar patterns of marginalization as those faced in rural and mountainous villages. He also demonstrates that working class districts and clandestine democratic unions and parties re-invented people’s environmental rights against an intra.occidental and self-conscious environmental coloniality.
